The first record of Mass celebrated in Market Drayton occurred in 1856 when Father James Kenny of Whitchurch celebrated Mass in a private house. After this date, there are records of priests from Swynnerton Hall occassionally celebrating Mass here, then from 1864 Market Drayton was served from Crewe and then from Nantwich until 1884 when Father Laurence Levett came as the first resident priest.
